MR. EYBYANINCH BOOK 2 PAGE 29

It gets scarier.

MR. EYBYANINCH BOOK 2 PAGE 28

Get your scary music going. You might want to consider something by John Carpenter. Like the Halloween theme. Three 6 Mafia uses it for their Lolli Lolli song. Because girls dancing with lollipops are just as dangerous as Michael Myers. In that song, one of the members (possibly Three-boz?) implores all the ladies in the club to put their hands in the Ur. Get your hands in the ancient Mesopotamian city! That's an untapped market. Or, it hasn't been tapped since the 1950s. The 1950s B.C.E.

What was i talking about? Oh, right.

HORROR!

TERROR!

The most frightening page of comics in all comics history!

Prepare to be scared.

FORGET CHANGE

That's not the word anymore.

INSPIRE.

I don't mutherfucking care if my friends expect sarcasm and cynicism and whining and complaining.

If Barack Obama made this speech in 2004, I would've written his name in and bought a gun and put people at gunpoint and made them write it in in 2004.

Holy Mouther fuck. I can't remove myself at all. I'm sorry for anyone who feels less than me right now. Anyone else is a coward.

THE ANTI-ORWELLIAN

I'm in no position to talk bout this right now, but at some point I want to write an essay about the ability, not to obfuscate, but to inspire and make the words of our parents a reality. The power of The Word is real, and we should never underestimate its ability to make the world better place. We focus so often upon language's ability to cast a Spell and make arcane the mechanisms that make everyday life functional. We forget — I do every day — that language, that The WordS can inspire and Remind us that we, as individuals, can and should partake in the communal promise of a civilized people.

The WordS are all WE are. At some point, the things that are important aren't who I or you are, but who WE can be.

I'm getting a little drunk right now. And I need to focus on listening. Listening to OUR words, the words we wish we could all shout this loud.

So, yesterday had a touch of the suck to it, and then I ran into an old friend I hadn't seen in too long after lunch. And then Marcos and I had a night of Beer, Bubba and Biden. Oh, and for the first time in my entire life, my candidate is running for the presidency of the United States of America. Then today's lunch was so great, I had to blast the KLF on my headphones. That's pretty good.

And now I'm getting these pages up. And I'm waiting for the speech. I'm gonna put one more page up tonight, and I'll do a little more work. But I've got some wine, some arugula*, and I'm gonna have some fun.

*Playing the role of arugula tonight will be Tostitos — the chip of the liberal elite®

SOME BRIEF NOEL SICKLES THOUGHTS

First of all, Thank You IDW for putting this book out. Scorchy Smith and the Art of Noel Sickles is spectacular, and will probably take me all the times to go through.

Second of all, this book is HUGE!

So many pages! So much art! So many strips! If I could see all the faces of all the people responsible for this book, I would kiss you on your mouths. But I can't, because this is the internet, and no one's faces can be seen here.

I do have one tiny complaint (it IS the internet!). Of the 17 illustrations Sickles did for Love is Eternal, the Reader's Digest tale of Lincoln love, why is there only one piece reprinted (eighth image down if you clicked that link)? And why is it in black and white? And why is it so tiny?

Why deprive us of the crazy color scheme? Couldn't we have the black and white and the color? Is a Love is Eternal Omnibus planned for the future? Complete with pencil sketches, inks, color reproductions, essays, removable posters?

I demand a pull-out poster of Reader's Digest Condensed Books Autumn, 1954, Page 154: Lincoln's legs hanging from a hole in the ceiling!

Also, could you maybe update your website? New books are listed as recently as April. Scorchy Smith has no link to it. Come on, you're ruining my thrill. My thrill of having more Sickles in one place than ever before. SICKLES!

I GAVE YOU A BEAUTIFUL GIFT AND THE FIRST QUESTION AMERICANS ASK IS, "WHY?"

That's a paraphrase from one of the best movies of the year.

If Man on a Wire is playing at a theater near you, now or in the near future, do yourself a favor and go see it. Don't wait for dvd, because this is a movie that actually takes advantage of being projected as big as possible.

Merging interviews, documentary footage and reenactments, Director James Marsh tells the story of French high-wire walker Philippe Petit. It's like an Errol Morris film turned into a fun heist movie that replaces a bank job with an attempt to walk across the 200 feet separating the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in the summer of 1974.

It's a visceral documentary. Very exciting. Colorful characters. Scary as hell. Full of human triumph and it put me on the verge of mantears at the end. There's some French, but it's mostly in English. Off the top of my head, I would say it's one of the best movies ever made about the artistic process.

Also: a guy totally walks across the sky!!!

SPX 2008 PRESHOW HINT #1

Every day, the publishers, editors, writers, artists and select interns at Cliff Face Comics discuss plans for bringing you more exciting, high-quality comics. Most of the ideas we generate are better than anyone else's ideas for comics, but we have a reputation to maintain. A reputation for excellence so high, 'better than anyone else' simply isn't good enough. And so, most of these ideas get flushed down the toilet.

But some ideas are too good or too large or made of some space-age ultralight corn material that keeps them from sinking into the bowl. These ideas we don't flush! These ideas become Cliff Face Comics.

And so it shall be again. We're concocting something new. Something special. Something maybe a little bit exclusive to the cons. We're in the labs right now, trying to make it happen. Make it great.

There's a good chance this could be the idea of a lifetime. Assuming the lifetime measured is that of a standard fruit fly.

Hint #1: The Underseaer.

MR. EYBYANINCH BOOK 2 PAGE 20

FINALLY!!! I've been trying to upload this image since 6PM! D-Man you, Blogger!

Here it is, page 20 of Mr. Eybyaninch Book 2:

On July 25, I decided to give myself a new goal: 20 Pages in 55 Days! Well, ten days later I was already halfway to go-laaaaaaaaa! I hit the book's 2/3 mark in less than half the estimated time. Not bad. Also, the pages are starting to get better again.

On the board right now is page 21. I'd like to work out a plan of attack tomorrow for the remaining 9 pages. Crunch time! I need to make sure I end in the right place.

Can I do ten pages in 10 days again? If so, can I get Mr. Eybyaninch Book 3 done for SPX? It's two months away. How crazy can I be?

TOO LATE TO SCAN

I was antiquing all day and all of the night, and now it's too late to scan. But Page 20 of Mr. Eybyaninch Book 2 is done and is quite possibly the single greatest drawing of my entire life. Also, I should be able to post it free of glaring typos, unlike some other recent pages.

Probably.

Hopefully.

MR. EYBYANINCH BOOK 2 PAGE 18

I know. It's a little too obvious. Not quite the 'plot twist' you were hoping for. But sometimes you just gotta hit those necessary story beats.

And yes, I know what you're going to say. That lettering is a total rip off of Mike Royer's title lettering from OMAC and The Eternals. But I love it so. Also, the image is a teensyweensy bit Windsor McCay-ish, but that's only if you're looking really hard.

SHOULDN'T I BE WORKING?

CARL CIRCUS

You find the strangest things when perusing old comic strips...

BOSOME

Another night, another page left incomplete. I spent a good chunk of the day working on a page that was all wrong for Mr. Eybyaninch. Tonight, I realized what the next page needed to be. Something that would fully set up Chapter 3. Something I needed to do, as it is half the reason I'm doing this story. What I was working on all day was a diversion, and a pointless one at that. What I've done tonight is... well, I don't want to give it away. Suffice it to say, without hyperbole, that it is very nearly genius. Genius in a Fermilab sort of way. Like a super collision of bosons and awesome, forming bosome.

Speaking of Bosome, I found out today that Cult of Luna has had a new album out since the beginning of July. Wait. That isn't bosome. That's negligence of media reportage! Where was that news? Mouth of the Architect has a new one out as well. That will have to wait a bit. But Cult of Luna was an immediate buy. I love those guys. When the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse come, they won't be running toward us, but away from Cult of Luna. Who are in space, I guess.
