DRONK POSTING PAGE THIS ONE

So, I realized, for story-stucture purposes, that I needed to add a scene after the old page 23 — whatever that page is supposed to be now. The first page went smoothly enough, but the secon really and truly kicked my ass,

It was a week od drawing and redrwaing, followde by day of artistic" paralysis. I think it's finally done. It's hard to say, though. When youe hit a page like this, you start wondering, "Does this LOOK like I spent three days on this? Does it look like I spen FICVE days on this? Does it look like iI froze for aWEEK drawing this. THIS? Oh, well. Herre it is:

There's actually a lot going on heree f, for me, at least. A: it required a bit aof a stylistic shift. It' might nit be ammediately appearent, but there was a different way of thinking that went into this. ASLO, there was jst the angles. I;m not saying this right. But those worms eye views made me rewrite cetain synapes in my brain that I was clinging onto. Ever sincr then, I've lost a number of taken for granted motoer functions. It's too much to get into. But, even if the finaished product doesn'
t look impressive or oaalll that divergent, for MME, it was. For ME, it fucked my head up welll and good.

I hope it was worth it.

Now, where are my tethee ?

CONSISTENCY? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGERS!

After finishing the 11 pages that I'm adding onto the top of issue 9, it was time to return to the backside. The first tier was done before MoCCA and before my headlong dive into The top 11. The bottom two tiers have the newest of panels.

The distinction is even more pronounced when looking at the panels from the previous page (whatever the number will be). Still, when I went into the bottom four, I completely rethought my original compositions.

Part of this is from reading so much of the Kirbies. Part of this was because I realized I had pushed in too far for too long and needed to pull back (a lesson I had pounded into my skull through a virtuostic display of failure by example — thanks, Michael Bay!). Part of it was having to explain why Gilbert Hernandez was the Greatest Cartoonist of ALL TIME (a speech that won't get me on the lecture circuit anytime soon, but that helped me further cement what was missing in my own work that I truly value in others). And part of it was just being revitalized by those top 11. I think my energy was starting to lag as I hit olde page 22, but it now feels pretty revived.

JAZZ HANDS!

I'm so happy, right now, I needed to do some jazz hands. Jazz Hands! Comics needs more jazz hands. I gots what you need, comics!

Anyone who read the first four issues of EMAW probably recognizes a recuring motif on this page... that's right, A HAT! This page was supposed to be the NEW page 10 (bumping th olde to page 20), but then I realized I miscounted my double-page spread's placement. So, I had to add ANOTHER page in before this. That makes this the new page 11! The olde page 11 will be the new page 22. The new boss will be the same as the olde boss. Kenny! Get on a Bruce Springsteen Clone Army comic, STAT!

So, why am I so happy? Is it because my computer is finally up and really running? Partly. Is it because I'm not feeding myself with vending machine meals paid for with spare change? Also, partly. Is it because I finally caught up on my emails? Well, no. I haven't done that at all. What about finally sending those gifts I need to send out? Nope. Did I get something extra special in the mail? Yessssssss... more on that later. Have i sent out the mail I needed to send out? No. Did I get a few pages done today after a week of not accomplishing anything? YES! Whoo-HOO!!!!!

WEEKEND OF COMPUTER MAY HAMS IS OVER

...long live the week of computer may hams!

We've restarted How Did This Happen? for shorts. Two new panels in 3 days! Take that, slower people!

I need to go to bed and cry digital tears.

BEFORE ANOTHER CRASH

I know the laptop is going to go soon (and I'm really late for something now that I accidently took the wrong train going back to Jersey), but I wanted to get this double-page spread up while I could. It's just quickly laid out and doesn't match up perfect yet, but here you go.

I also want to make a quick shout out to Ethan: reader at the Onion's AV Club. He posted that he picked up EMAW #8 and had great things to say. If you go to this link, and scroll down about halfway, you'll find it. Ethan, you are the Awesome.

Now, I seriously have to run...

PAGE 3, DEUCE!

So, the idea is to start the book off with a bunch of full-pagers. Splash! Splash! Splash! Splash!

And, of course, we're debuting a different type of agent as well. All-crazy issue spectacular!

NEW PAGE 2!

Everything that works in the new page two counteracts everything that might not work to such a degree, that I feel satisfied.

More Jack all over!

NEW PAGE 1

Sure, I've got last week's scans to put up. And I've got a few old pages still to draw. AND I still have to call/email a few people. BUT I really wanted to hit one of the new pages tonight, and decided to go with the new page 1:

I had just finished Jack Kirby's New Gods Omnibus Volume 1 (which is the awesomest of the awesome) before MoCCA and I still have Jack on the brain. To you, there might not be much Jack on the page, but to me, the thing's got Jack all over it. A bunch of the new pages are gonna have Jack all over them. It's like my hand is trying to get as much Jack on the page as possible. My brand-new Jack hand.
